Client billing setup, rate cards, defaults, and charges
A controlled example can be a real transaction. No sandbox is guaranteed by this guide. Obtain authorized approval before importing or submitting an example, purchasing a label, creating a shipment or issuing an invoice. Use a small known record, confirm the provider environment and possible fees, and reconcile the outcome before any repeat.
Configure warehouse billing in a predictable order and understand what each charge represents.
Menus and actions depend on your workspace, plan and permissions. Use the onboarding guide for current navigation. Provider setup and fees may apply; confirm the configured workflow before a transaction.
Recommended setup order
- Create or confirm warehouse billing profile and currency.
- Create a rate card with services and unit prices.
- Set warehouse default rate card or billing behavior.
- Assign the correct rate card to each client and confirm effective dates.
- Review overrides, minimums, recurring fees, storage, and shipping rules.
- Run a test shipment or invoice preview before production billing.
What a rate card is
A rate card is a versioned list of prices and rules used to calculate warehouse charges. It is not an invoice. Operational records provide the quantities and events that create charges.
Common charge types
- Receiving: recording inbound inventory.
- Prep: unit or shipment preparation.
- Forwarding: moving prepared inventory to its marketplace destination.
- Cross-dock: cross-dock receiving, handling, prep, or forwarding.
- Pick and pack: D2C order picking and packing.
- Shipping: carrier cost and configured markup.
- Storage: inventory storage for the configured period or unit.
- Materials and labels: approved operational supplies.
- Returns or adjustments: configured return, exception, or manual work.
Warehouse default
The warehouse default is the fallback used when a more specific client or service configuration is not present. It should be a deliberate baseline, not a replacement for assigning each client the right rate card.
